Who is Kudzu Records?
We are a group of collaborators obsessed with interesting music. We love showing people how good their ideas can sound and we want to help artists of the Space Coast and beyond create a body of work they’re proud of.
Kudzu Records was founded by husband-and-wife duo Morgan and Thalia Bunch to give emerging artists a straightforward way to record, produce, and release their music independently. Our mission is to promote our local music scene by providing the technical backbone and industry guidance musicians need to take their creative vision from a raw idea to a professional release.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some common questions about our process to help you better understand what to expect from working with us:
Generally, you can expect the following to happen after contacting us for a consultation:
1. Pre-Production Interview - We get to know a little about you and the nature of your project.
2. Contract Agreement - We determine the scope of your project based on your needs, deadlines, and budget then we outline a plan of action along with terms and conditions within a contract proposal.
3. Deposit & Delivery of Client Files - Once you are satisfied with our proposal and the contract is signed by everyone, we require an initial, nonrefundable deposit and, if applicable, for you to send us your files before work can begin.
4. Production - We do what needs to be done.
5. Feedback & Incremental Approval - We email you regular progress updates on the project in exchange for feedback. You'll sign off on what aspects you approve and whatever details you want us to revisit. Calls or Zoom meetings can be coordinated (depending on availability). Clear communication is the key to success here.
6. Revisions - Revisions will be completed based on what was negotiated in the contract.
7. Milestones Payments - Applies mainly to long-term projects. Milestone payments will be sent depending on the contract.
8. Final Approval - Once we've completed the project, we need you to review the final draft(s) and send us your approval via email. Be aware that once you approve of the final deliverable(s), any further requests for edits will incur additional charges.
9. Final Payment & Delivery of Files - Final payment will need to be sent in order for you to receive your final deliverable(s).
10. Exit Interview - You'll receive a survey so you can share your thoughts about working with us and we'll follow up with you to discuss your feedback. This final step helps us understand what we're doing well and what we need to improve on so we can continue to serve clients to the best of our abilities.
Before you first book a consultation, you can include links in our Calendly form or within a message to makesomenoise@kudzu.ooo.
After an agreement is made and you've paid the initial, nonrefundable deposit, you can send us materials and/or stems required for the project via email, Dropbox, or Google Drive.
If you're trying to send us a demo for music you want published through our label, please email your track(s) to demos@kudzu.ooo.
Absolutely! We can try to coordinate so you can sit in on production sessions over Zoom and provide immediate feedback while we work on your music. Bear in mind, our schedule might not allow us the flexibility to accommodate your availability at times.
The timeline varies based on the project scope. Typically, a single song can take a few weeks, while an EP or LP may require several months. Multimedia deliverables can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months as well. We will provide a detailed timeline during our initial consultation.
For sample-based workflows, we have access to royalty-free sample platforms like Splice, LANDR, Loopmasters, etc., we have preferred sources for public domain content, and we also record original material to process into samples. If you have a specific copyrighted release in mind to use for your project, we can negotiate the responsibility and legal liability for clearing a sample when we draft your contract/an amendment to your contract.
Any music featuring copyrighted samples that we are involved with creating and which is intended for commercial release requires a securely written license agreement. Depending on where we are in production, if we don't have documented permission to use copyrighted music, we'll omit the sample idea or let you file your song idea for later instead of working on it.
Yes. Let us know what you need done when you book a consultation.
We will draft an amendment to the active contract we already have in place, discussing your new requirements, resulting changes in scope and deadlines, and any additional fees. If you're happy with the terms, we'll sign an amended agreement and move forward with your additional requests.
Yes, we value your input and offer revisions to ensure your satisfaction. After each initial draft, we will work with you to make necessary adjustments. Most deliverables include two passes of revisions each and further revisions are subject to additional fees.
For music, in most cases, you will receive final mix tracks as 44.1 kHz, 24-bit WAVs (or the format of your choosing) mastered for your required distribution channels or prepared for mastering by a separate engineer.
For graphics and multimedia deliverables, you will receive high-quality exported files suitable for commercial publishing.
This will be negotiated for each release but, generally speaking, if YOU are independently financing the recording and production of your music, YOU will own your master recordings.
Otherwise, if you negotiate a cost-splitting agreement with us so your music can be recorded and produced, then Kudzu Records has a claim to the master recording rights proportional to our investment in your project. In this case especially, we will propose an arrangement regarding licensing, publishing, and distribution as part of the project contract.
Yes. All of our services require some form of written agreement or the work will not happen.
We also need documented approvals in writing or sent via email.
NO verbal agreements. NO informal agreements over DMs.
We aim to make professional production accessible while ensuring our team can stay focused on your music. We use PayPal and Stripe for all official invoicing.
To begin work, we require an initial, non-refundable deposit. This secures your spot on our production calendar and covers the pre-production phase. There will either be a final balance or the remaining balance will then be split into milestone payments tailored to your specific project’s scope and timeline. Final high-resolution files are delivered once the final balance is cleared.
Yes. Beyond our internal milestone system, our invoices support Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) options like Affirm, Klarna, and PayPal Credit. If you are eligible through those platforms, you can finance your production costs into monthly installments while Kudzu is paid upfront to keep your project moving.
Please Note: A 3% processing fee is added to invoices utilizing BNPL financing to cover the additional third-party transaction costs.
For Larger Projects: Since BNPL platforms often have individual credit limits, we can split your EP or LP production into smaller, financed phases to make the investment more manageable.
